Tangerine

By Mike Murphy

Hook: Small Streamer/Large Nymph, #8
Thread: Black - Head end, Orange - Bead End
Body: Gold Tinsel
Bead: Tangerine Orange Glass 6-138 Beadit! Main St.Concord NH
Overwing: Brown/Yellow bucktail

Push hook through bead and using orange thread, make a stop towards the bend of the hook so the bead not slip off the hook. Switch to Black thread and tie in gold tinsel. Make a smooth thread base and wrap the tinsel forward and secure. Tie in a sparse amount of brown and yellow bucktail fibers as an overwing. Finish with a black head.

This small sparse fly is for "far and fine" casting and slow trolling in ponds where the trout have seen pressure. Like the Hornberg, it does not seem to spook the fish. Tangerine is a consistent pattern on ponds like Willard and Upper Hall and streams like the New Boston and the Upper Connecticut. After getting a strike with a Hares Ear, I will go to this fly as a follow up. I first tied this fly in 1994 making the egg sac with orange thread and head cement before I discovered the beads.
